Jesus is at the heart of the two miracles we find sandwiched together here in Mark’s Gospel. The raising of Jairus’ daughter is like two slices of bread surrounding the woman healed from her hemorrhaging. It’s important to note the parallels in the stories. Both involve unclean women -- one who’s been bleeding for as long as the other has been alive. Both also involve faith, not in the sense of having the right beliefs about Jesus, but in the sense of being willing to trust fully, to bet everything on the healing presence of Christ. What matters for these women and what matters today is the source of their miraculous healings.
