The Caring Ministry teams are comprised of volunteers, who assist the pastors in offering Christ-like, compassionate, loving support to parishioners and community members during times of challenge and crisis. Pastor Donna and Anne Kapper, Parish Visitor, oversee the teams and volunteers.
Caring Ministries include…
Parish Visitor & Lay Visitation Team
Anne Kapper, our Parish Visitor on staff, coordinates regular communication and connection with individuals who are no longer able to attend church. She leads the volunteer lay visitation team, who visits individuals in their homes or extended care facilities, makes phone calls, sends cards and notes, and shares communion if requested.
Special Person of the Week
A person who can no longer attend church is designated each week as special person of the week. This person’s name is shared in the worship announcements and newsletter, and the congregation is encouraged to contact the person by phone or mail during the week.
Hospital Visitation
All patients who are known to be hospitalized are visited regularly by the pastors or Anne Kapper (unless they request not to be.) It is necessary for the hospitalized person or the family to let the church know the person is in the hospital.
Food Crisis Ministry
The food crisis ministry is set up to give meals to members of our congregation after being in the hospital, having a newborn baby, and other crises that might affect the routine of a home. Members needing care are referred to the Caring Ministries Coordinator who makes arrangements for meals. We have about 15 members of our congregation who have volunteered to offer meals and deliver them to the homes of our members.
Bereavement Team
This team assists families of persons who have died and provides food for a reception after the funeral, for the family at the funeral home, or for the family at home.
IU Health Congregational Partnership Ministry
A team of volunteers, coordinated by Anne Kapper, partners with IU Health to provide emotional/spiritual support to patients referred by IU.
