New member classes offer an opportunity for individuals to affiliate with First Methodist through membership, and to reflect upon the implications of such a commitment.

“Through the Sacrament of Baptism, we are initiated into Christ’s holy church. We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.” (The United Methodist Hymnal, 1989)

Baptism is an outward and visible sign of inward and spiritual grace, demonstrating to the world God’s love for us and our adoption into God’s family. It is also our promise to God of our continual love, faith, and service. Those who are baptized constitute the community we call the church; therefore, the sacrament of baptism is conducted during services of public worship.

At First Methodist we practice both infant and adult baptism. Please contact Nancy Argersinger to arrange for baptisms at any of our worship services.
