Juneteenth Contemporary Worship

  • First United Methodist Church 219 East 4th Street Bloomington, IN, 47408 United States (map)

June 19, 2022 | 11:45am | Sanctuary

If you enjoy praising God in contemporary worship, we hope you'll join for this special Juneteenth celebration 11:45am in our sanctuary on June 19. We'll sing upbeat contemporary music, explore Scripture lessons, and hear a message that speaks to faith in action.

When Jesus teaches the crowd, he shares a parable about a sower who abundantly scatters seed on all types of ground. In other words, Jesus preaches the word to all, offering God’s inclusive love to all kinds of people. Jesus’ parable widens the audience to whomever God now extends the graciousness that was formerly directed to Israel alone. In his day, this crossing of boundaries and mixing of people would be shocking. In our time, Sunday morning remains the most segregated hour of the week. As we honor Juneteenth today, we will look at the call of Jesus to widen our community and transform oppressive systems so that all people may live in freedom, justice, and peace.
