The parable of the Prodigal Son compares the response of two brothers to their father’s unconditional grace and forgiveness. The younger son claimed his part of the inheritance and ran away. When his father throws a party for his return, the older brother, who remained dutifully home, resents him. The reality is that parts of both brothers live inside each of us. During Lent, we dig in honestly to our lives, recognizing how we disappoint God. Yet God is always poised to run down the road to welcome us home, whether we are a dutiful child, prodigal child, or a tangled mixture of both. We will experience a time of prayer with anointing to open ourselves to God’s healing grace.
