Winter Clothing Drive - October 2021

The purpose of the Winter Clothing Drive is to collect winter clothing from religious and other organizations and to distribute the clothing to men, women, and children in need in Monroe County.

The drive will be organized and directed by Trinity Church, the Unitarian Universalist Church (UUCB), First United Methodist and the Bloomington Fire Department. Healing Hands, Bloomington will distribute clothing not selected by individuals during the distribution event.

Clothing to be Collected for Drive:

· Winter coats, Winter hats, Hoodies, Scarves, Socks, and Thermal underwear in all sizes.

· The clothing can be new or used but must be clean and in good condition

· We are looking for sturdiness and function, not necessarily style

Drop off at First United Methodist on 9:30am Service on Sundays – October 17th, 24th, & 31st.

The clothing will be distributed from the Main Fire Station at 300 E. 4th Street from 8 AM to noon, on November 6. Snacks and drinks will be provided at the distribution event, by the Fire Department.

After the distribution event on November 6, the remaining items will be collected from the Main Fire Station by Healing Hands Outreach Center and taken to the following locations for distribution: The Shalom Center/Beacon, Wheeler Mission, New Hope Family Shelter, The Rise/Middle Way House, New Leaf New Life.

· Volunteers are needed to help sort, fold, and hang clothing at the distribution site. Interested in volunteering? Click here!

NOTE: Pre-arranged dates for sorting and hanging clothing at the distribution site will be October 19, and 26 from 6:30pm-8:30pm. NOTE: A total of six volunteers will be needed on each of these dates.

· Volunteers to help at the distribution of the clothing on November 6. This will involve helping people find clothing, helping with bagging clothing, and loading leftover clothing for future distribution. One of two shifts: 7:30-10:00 AM or 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM.
