In his book Canoeing the Mountains, Tod Bolsinger examines the story of Lewis and Clark crossing the Louisiana Purchase. Their expedition was built on the false expectation that they would find a waterway to canoe across the country. When they hit the continental divide, they were forced to change course, do a completely new thing, and adapt to their adventure. Today we’ll explore Isaiah’s prophetic word to God’s people in Exile. When they were conquered by their enemies and forced to leave their land, God reassured them, “Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” In our third pandemic Lent (which, in many ways, has felt like one long Lent), how will we venture into God’s uncharted territory in our lives and community?
